In his role as Finance Planning and Analysis Lead for both the Consumer, Industrials and Services Practice Group and the Europe region, Avi partners with a range of people and advises on development strategies, market focus, and growing the business. Avi joined the firm in 2013 when Oliver Wyman acquired Corven, where he had been Head of Finance.
While there’s no standard day for Avi, there are a few areas in which he focuses: reporting financial and other performance metrics to Partners, team and market leaders, as well as budgeting and capacity/deployment planning. As a Strategic Partner in the business, he works with human capital and talent management teams to ensure that Oliver Wyman has the right people with the right skills in the right places, is focusing on the right markets and clients, and is on the path for sustainable growth.
You don’t have a job for life at OW -- you may be here for life, but your role will change every 12-18 months.”
The fact that his role is constantly evolving and progressing keeps things interesting and fresh, Avi notes. To achieve his and his team’s larger goals and pursue his initiatives, Avi has responsibility for a wide variety of tasks and works closely with teammates and colleagues across the globe. He regularly collaborates across numerous departments, from talent management and HC to operations, legal, and marketing.
Avi has consistently been impressed with the professionalism, knowledge, and diversity of the people he has met and worked with at OW. “The variety and quality of abilities, skills, and attitudes around the office contribute to a focused, yet fun and open, atmosphere,” he notes.
Avi has felt grateful for the numerous opportunities he’s had to pursue his personal interests at work via volunteering programs, recruiting activities, and Employee Resource Groups. He’s a Communications Lead for the London chapter of WOW, our women’s network, believing that “allyship is all about challenging perspectives, including your own.” “Being part of a network like WOW is not just about you, but about opening yourself up to different perspectives and becoming a more rounded person, as well as showing commitment and support to others” he says.
Clear lines of communication and an understanding of team output at Oliver Wyman allowed Avi to be flexible when he and his wife had their first son and when his wife suffered an illness soon afterwards - something he remains really grateful for, and which demonstrates the supportive environment at the company. When he is not working, Avi enjoys spending time with his family and is a passionate runner and volunteer, finishing six marathons in 2020 (including two with OW colleagues) and organizing free, weekly, “parkruns” in his local area. He is also a sports fan, supporting Watford football club and having had a season ticket there for over 20 years.
