The Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Center named Jeff Wessler, MD, the recipient of the 2022 Tom Main Health Innovation Mentorship. Wessler is the founder and CEO of Heartbeat Health, a New York-based company that delivers virtual-first cardiology services. Through its app, Heartbeat Health offers telemedicine, diagnostics, referrals, care coordination, and more. Patients connect directly with a cardiologist who utilize real-time data to help patients manage their heart condition. Wessler wants to build on the company’s success and make telecardiology more widespread. The company recently announced a deal with Caption Health to launch echocardiograms utilizing artificial intelligence.

Wessler is the third recipient of the mentorship, following Corbin Petro, CEO and Co-founder of Eleanor Health last year, and Lisa Janssen Alderson, Co-founder and CEO of Genome Medical, in 2020. The mentorship honors Tom Main, who founded OWHIC. Main — a former Partner and the US Market Leader within Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences practice — was passionate about mentoring health transformers. He unexpectedly passed away in 2018. The Tom Main Health Innovation Mentorship aims to carry on his mission — one rooted in innovation and strategy — to support leaders aiming for health transformation.

Through the mentorship, innovators like Wessler are paired with senior members of Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences practice with a goal of developing a growth strategy and capturing opportunities to further transform the industry.

Oliver Wyman is grateful to have the support of the nine venture capital firms that nominated the initial set of entrepreneurs: 7wire Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Ascension Ventures, Echo Health Ventures, General Catalyst, Health Catalyst Capital Management, LRV Health, Sandbox Industries, and USCF Rosenman Institute. We are also appreciative to our judging panel for their valuable time and insights during our virtual Pitch Day: Jeanne Cohen (Founder and CEO of Motive Practicing Wisely Solutions), Jeff Margolis (chairman of Welltok), Mike Weissel (CEO of SecureSeniorConnections), as well as Oliver Wyman's Health and Life Sciences Team, Dan Shellenbarger and Marc Tomassi.

And finally, a warm thank you to the Main family for their continued involvement and support regarding this initiative. Because of our community's commitment and dedication, the Tom Main Health Innovation Mentorship is a reality.
